Billy Joel's first album is a lost gem, released wayyy back in 1971 says amazon, and is a great example of the singer-songwriter fasination that was prevelent throughout this period. I don't know if any of these songs are famous, and quite frankly i don't care. They are great poppy-rock-folk songs, with emphasis on piano - and its a great listen when you feel down. 'She's got a way' is a classic love song ,as is 'got to begin again', whereas tracks 2 and 3 pick up the pace to great effect, and Joel gives 110% with his vocal delivery and his piano playing is good, if unusually basic for Joel. 'Nocturne' is a top instrumental. Better than most of his later albums, highly recommended to all with a love of catchy melodies, but a couple of dodgy tracks let it down a bit, as does the fact all the songs seem to be written in the same key and a couple of the dodgy ones have the same chord sequences. In fact, 'You look so good to me' is exactly the same song as 'you can make me free' lol.
8/10
