So the new oasis album? Any good? I think so. Track by track review:
Turn Up The Sun (Andy Bell) : Strong Oasis rock song, catchy if short chorus, goes kinda wierd towards the end with an sort of Irish Folk Melody (me neither). Good Song 8/10
Mucky Fingers (Noel Gallagher) : Noel sings this one, kinda annoying up-tempo song with a repetitive beat and the end of the song repeats the same note for about 30 seconds. Nice harmonica part, and good singing. 6/10
Lyla (Noel Gallagher) : Single release, the only typical Oasis song on the album really. Bit of a grower, nice chorus. Fits in well with the album me thinks. The guitar solo is too brief, and the song is too long. 7.5/10
Love Like A Bomb (Liam Gallagher) : Well this is rather suprising, a top quality song from Liam Gallagher, acoustic midtempo, restrained chorus with a brilliant piano break. Top class song. 9.5/10
The Importance Of Being Idle (Noel Gallagher): Noel sings this one, which sounds like a 60's rock song, complete with weird synth sounds, top lyrics and damn catchy melody. As unlike a typical Oasis song as u are likely to hear, gets thumbs up for me, esp. for a - wait for it - good guitar solo by Noel Gallagher! 9/10
Meaning Of Soul (Liam Gallagher) - Acoustic guitar rock song, would be much better without some really odd foot stamping percussion. Short and sweet however, under 2 mins, good song. 8/10
Guess God Thinks I'm Abel (Liam Gallagher) - Acoustic folk (!) song with a bit of an odd melody - in a good way, great lyrics, and the chorus is brilliantly restrained.
Stylishly done, catchy as hell. 9/10
Part Of The Queue (Noel Gallagher) - Noel sings it, good lyrics, uptempo accoustic song but sounds like 'Golden Brown' or Badly Drawn Boy, it's ok but nothing special. 6.5/10
Keep The Dream Alive (Andy Bell) - Starts off really good, it's a kinda epic song with electric guitars. Chorus is average, nothing too special, and it outstays its welcome by at least 2 minutes (6 mins in total). Would have fitted in well on 'standing on the shoulder of giants', which says it all. Guitar solo is good. 5.5/10
A Bell Will Ring (Gem Archer) - Played to much hatred at Glastonbury last year, an electric rocky song. I can't hear a chorus at all, its just kinda crap. The opening 5 seconds are great though. One of the worst Oasis songs ever. 4/10
Let There Be Love (Noel Gallagher) - After two terrible songs, this brings the quality back up. Based on an ok demo song recorded a while back, its been crafted into a super pop ballad/epic, the perfect album closer, sung by both Liam & Noel, the best song on the album. 10/10
So all in all a very good album, let down by a couple of attempts to recreate the Oasis sounds of the past, but the overall acoustic sound to the album is unexpected and damn good. Liam Gallagher is developing into a superb songwriter, and Don't Believe The Truth should be bought by everyone. 8.5/10
